Geneva — Le Lignon & surroundings
You moved to Geneva for work — CERN, the UN, WHO, a bank, a multinational. Your child is in Swiss public school, but the physics homework is in French, the curriculum is nothing like back home, and you can't help.
Then one evening, they look up and say: “Mum, I actually get it now!”
That's the spark. And that's exactly what I create.
From CHF 30/h in small groups · First session free
I'm Joanna Luong, a physics, chemistry and maths teacher based in Geneva with my family.
I've taught at the cycle d'orientation and collège in Geneva. I know the Swiss curriculum inside out — PER, maturité, cantonal exams.
I explain in English, we work through problems in French. Your child builds confidence in BOTH languages at once.
Graduated from Université Paris-Saclay. Physics is applied maths — I teach both at the same level of depth.
I know what it means to want the best for your children. I understand your concern — especially when the school system is unfamiliar.
Understanding, not just memorising.
From forces and motion to electricity — I make the abstract concrete, in French and English.
Atoms, reactions, stoichiometry — with real-life examples that make it stick.
The language of physics. Algebra, functions, geometry — taught the way Swiss schools expect it.
Covering the full Geneva curriculum: Cycle d'orientation (CO), Collège, and Maturité preparation.
Every breakthrough starts with a single step.
New country, new language, new school system. Your child is suddenly taking physics and maths in French — and the curriculum doesn’t match what they learned before.
Grades start slipping. It’s not that they’re not smart — they’re fighting two battles at once: the subject AND the language.
We meet. I explain in English, we work through problems in French. I pinpoint exactly where the gaps are — often it’s a foundation that was taught differently, not a lack of ability.
Week by week, the Swiss terminology starts making sense. The exercises become less intimidating. The French is no longer a wall — it’s just the language of the subject.
That magical moment: your child solves a problem on their own — in French — and smiles. They get it. Really get it.
Grades go up, but more importantly — your child raises their hand in class. They’re no longer the “new kid who doesn’t speak French.” They belong.

First session is on us. I identify the gaps, the strengths, and we set realistic goals together.
Regular lessons at my home in Le Lignon. Progress comes fast when the method is right — and the language barrier fades.
“We moved from the UK and my daughter was completely lost in physics. After 2 months with Joanna, she went from a 3.2 to a 4.8. The spark is real!”
— Parent, Cycle d'orientation
“Finally someone who can explain in English and make the French terminology click. My son actually looks forward to his science lessons now.”
— Parent, Collège

Everything expat parents ask us.
Yes! I’m fully bilingual. I explain concepts in English so your child truly understands, and we work through exercises in French so they’re prepared for school. It’s the best of both worlds.
Absolutely — this is exactly who I work with most. I bridge the gap between what your child learned in their previous school system and what the Swiss curriculum expects. We start from where they are, not where the class is.
I teach the Swiss public school curriculum (Plan d’études romand for the cycle d’orientation, and the Geneva collège programme leading to the maturité). If your child is in the Swiss public system, this is exactly what they need.
That’s my specialty. I explain the “why” in English so the concept is clear, then we practise using the French terminology and notation your child sees in class. Over time, the French becomes second nature.
From CHF 30/h in a small group of 3, CHF 35/h in a duo, and CHF 50/h for one-on-one. The first assessment session is free. 10-session pack: 10% off all formats. No hidden fees, no commitment.
At my home in Le Lignon (Vernier), Geneva. Easy to reach from Meyrin, Châtelaine, Aïre, Vernier, and the surrounding area — many international families live nearby.
Physics, chemistry and mathematics for students at the cycle d’orientation (CO) and collège level in Geneva, including maturité preparation. All three subjects, because a physics degree means maths is second nature to me.
